The fairly compact design of the Hyper 212 EVO minimizes interference when installed inside a case. When using current Evo, you have to carefully consider clearance when using tall RAM, and also wrestle a bit with the cooler. For 39.95 you can have a cooler with similar cooling and noise level to other top coolers like NH-D14 and other top coolers. It is also paired with Cooler Masters' new SickleFlow 120 fan to improve cooling and acoustic performances. Hyper 212 is 50.5mm If you don't already have the 212 there are several coolers as good or better for same or less money. If you own tall modules such as Corsair Vengeance or Mushkin Ridgeback, you aren’t going to fit them under the fan without being forced to mount it further up the heatsink. A revamped Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU cooler is finally here. Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2 is redesigned with an Asymmetrical tilt to guarantee RAM Clearance, along with revised brackets to assure the ease of installation. The overall installation process was very quick, provided you are able to overcome the irritating backplate installation procedure. The cooler is able to rotate by quite a large degree due to the minimalistic ‘clamping’ method Cooler Master use which loosely secures the retention plate in place. Security isn’t a particularly strong point for the Hyper 212 EVO’s installation. Once the retention plate is pushed through the cooler’s central gap and configured for the correct socket, you simply screw its spring-loaded screws into the 4 stand-offs. The motherboard already comes with a backplate (A in image) but in order to add the plastic bracket that came with the cooler, the motherboard backplate must be removed. The cooler includes an AM4 bracket (B in image) and the necessary stand offs (C in image). This doesn’t sound particularly challenging, but the fact that the stand-offs would barely pass through the backplate’s seemingly mis-shaped holes made it difficult. The method forces you to insert stand-offs from the CPU side through the mounting holes and then on through the backplate before securing them with a nut. Attaching the universal backplate to our LGA 1155 motherboard was slightly more frustrating than usual.
